About WorkdPlays
WorkdPlays has its foundation in research projects initiated by Associate Professor Louise Tranekjær from Roskilde University, whose expertise lies in language learning, workplace culture, and intercultural communication.
One of the research projects we build on was carried out at De Forenede Dampvaskerier (DFD) in collaboration with Roskilde University. The project focused on some of the everyday challenges DFD experiences in communication between management and production staff. It became clear that small details in communication can play a crucial role for employees with diverse language backgrounds.
The project resulted in new management tools, improved collaboration, and increased productivity, and led to workshops for laundry team leaders focusing on daily communication with international employees.
This knowledge forms a key part of the foundation for WorkdPlays, which has since been developed in collaboration with game developers from PortaPlay and several other partners.

Our mission
At WorkdPlays, our goal is to strengthen the Danish labour market at a time of declining local workforce availability and an increasing need to integrate employees with diverse language backgrounds. With a growing number of migrant workers in labour-intensive industries, there is a rising demand for tools that support both language acquisition, onboarding, and employee retention.
WorkdPlays has been developed as a digital learning game that supports language development and serves as a complement to existing language and professional training initiatives. The game is designed to reflect employees’ everyday work situations and concrete workplace tasks and can be integrated directly into onboarding programmes related to recruitment, training, and professional development.
The WorkdPlays platform is grounded in research-based knowledge about the central role of language in workplace culture, integration, well-being, efficiency, and organisational development. By anchoring language learning in the specific challenges of each company or industry, WorkdPlays helps create cohesion, a shared workplace culture, common values, and a mutual understanding of rules and work procedures.
The platform is therefore developed in close collaboration with individual industry associations and companies to ensure optimal onboarding.
A significant part of WorkdPlays’ future profits will be reinvested in the development of innovative, research-based language learning tools – effective, game-based solutions that grow out of everyday workplace needs and the latest language research.
