In collaboration with Roskilde University, Associate Professor Louise Tranekjær launched a research project focusing on some of the everyday challenges experienced at the company De Forenede Dampvaskerier (DFD) between management and production staff. The study revealed how small details in workplace communication can make a crucial difference for employees with different language backgrounds.
The collaboration proved valuable for both the company and the research. By raising awareness of language and interactional resources among managers, the project helped both management and employees overcome some of the hurdles caused by language barriers and cultural differences in the workplace.
The result was the development of new management tools, improved teamwork, and increased productivity. This knowledge became a key foundation for WorkdPlays, which has since been brought to life in partnership with game developers at PortaPlay and several other partners.
